About the BEA

In December 2006 David Podd and Alex Coffey decided to investigate the possibility of creating a not for profit business networking group, run by business people for the benefit of businesses in the Croydon and surrounding areas with the aim of combining this with a little help for local charities. A group of business friends were invited to help with this work. There followed an intensive series of meetings and discussions culminating in the launch of The Business Executives Association (Croydon) in January 2007, together with an agreed format for the meetings and the Aims and Objects of the Association.

A committee was formed from this group of the business friends that created our Association:- Cheryl Penry, Alex Coffey, David Podd, Jeremy Way, Daniel Glover, Malcolm Dickey, Chris Clark and Andy Szebeni. The Association owes a great debt of gratitude to them for the vast amount of their own time and expertise - all unpaid.

Our Association continues to grow in membership every month and our meetings are very successful.

Now that the Association is well established, the intention is to encourage our members to take a place on the committee in the future.

From the very beginning, the ethos of our Association has been to provide an opportunity for our members and their business friends to meet in an informal and friendly atmosphere; to this end a set of aims and rules were created which continue to be the guidelines for us. These are as follows:-

The Aims The Rules
• To encourage business to business
recommendations within the group
• To develop business leads from
organisations and individuals outside the
group for the benefit of our members
• To encourage, advise and assist fellow
members where possible
• Through a sociable and enjoyable
environment, encourage awareness of all
the members and their services

1. The annual membership fee is £30 which
is not refundable in part or whole
2. The monthly meeting fee is £15
3. Meeting fees must be paid by standing
order or fully, annually in advance
4. The meeting will normally be held on the
second Thursday of each month from 18.30
to 20.30 (currently Purley Downs Golf Club)
5. Dress code is smart business attire,
specifically no jeans or trainers (Golf Club
rules apply)
6. Membership will be subject to approval by
the membership committee
7. Guests may attend no more than two
meetings before applying to join. If the
membership is declined the invitation to
attend will no longer be extended to
that guest
